Welcome to the Horse World

The horse world is full of those run of the mill girls who assume large amounts of money and flashy, expensive horses will buy them first place. I am not one of them. The other half of the horse world are sly, underhanded little devils that try to lure you into their traps. Whether its creating a false sense of safety and friendship or convincing you to believe that this brand new, show condition Bates saddle worth $3,000 is truly for sale for a mere $600 leaving out the fact it is stolen, I am not one of them either. The third half of the horse world is full of some of the kindest, most generous people I know. They are always ready to offer their help or a useful opinion. I like to believe I am one of these people.

I have adored horses for 6 years and ridden them for 4. I have had weekly lessons, exercised horses, schooled green horses...you name it, I've done it, probably. I have seen and looked after horses with colic, orphaned foals, legs cut to the bone, abscesses. I spent six months recently riding for a woman with 5 horses and back to back vet bills. First it was checking on the pregnant mare, then stitching up the cut on the old mare, then removing the stitches on that mare, then checking the foal after she was born, and most recently there were 5 visits in 5 days for the foal's mum, who had colic.

I have recently moved to a different city and am now working on re-establishing myself in the horse world, and sorting the posh, snobby girls from the sneaky liars and the sneaky liars from the possible friends. So far, I have started weekly lessons at a local riding school, and after 2 lessons I think it might be a challenge to fit in. Luckily, I have already had 2 people ask me if I would be willing to do some work for them in their stables one day a week. I'm just hoping that this extra time I spend at the stables will result in not only a good reputation, but also some good friends.

Until next time,
KaimanawaKim
